Maytag Recalls Nearly 2 Million Dishwashers

The usually lonely Maytag repairman is going to be busy for the next few weeks.

The company is warning customers to stop using some brands of dishwashers due to a heating element problem that poses a potential fire hazard.

Maytag has recalled 1.7 million units, including 160,000 sold in Canada between February 2006 and April 2010. It has so far received 12 reports of electrical failure in the heating units of various models, including one that resulted in extensive kitchen damage.

Affected models also contain the serial numbers that start or end with the following sequences: NW39, NW40, NW41, NW42, NW43, NW44, NW45, JC, JE, JG, JJ, JL, JN, NW46, NW47, NW48, NW49, NW50, NW51, JP, JR, JT, JV, JX, LA, NW52, NY01, NY02, NY03, NY04, NY05, LC, LE, LG, LJ, LL, LN, NY06, NY07, NY08, NY09, NY10, NY11, LP, LR, LT, LV, LX, NA, NY12, NY13, NY14, NY15, NY16, NY17, NC, NE, NG, NJ, NL, NN,NY18, NY19, NP and NR.
